Outline:
1. The why behind Justice Blanco’s life work:
a. Iranian heritage to demonstrate that rule of law and democracy are fragile. Both need guardians, and the guardians are primarily lawyers.
b. The importance of institutions that protect those rights.
2. Values to action – Justice Blanco’s life examples of putting ideas into action to inspire the audience.
a. values are not abstract ideas and have guided the justice’s work.
b. Courts/attorneys are the guardians—particularly when we talk about due process, fairness, unbiased access, and protection of the vulnerable.
3. The concrete innovations put into action:
a. competency court/veterans court/bilingual justice program/Latinx task force—each program was a practical expression of the rule of law and building platform for guardians.
b. These programs are how we keep democracy resilient through structure, design, and humanity.
